Great North Run

This will be the second time around the Great North Run course, and will be part of my preparation for the Amsterdam Marathon in October.

John Brewer is performance director of the LSSA – an organisation dedicated to providing research and education on the latest advances in sports science and nutrition. John is a ten-time London Marathon runner, developed the Multistage Fitness (bleep) test and his work has been published in both academic journals and specialist sports magazines (including Runner's World and Running Fitness).

Currently performance director of the Lucozade Sport Science Academy and along with running enjoy skiing and hill walking. Formerly a middle distance runner completed first marathon in 1984, and now a regular around the London Marathon course having completed the London Maratohn 10 times. Also run many half marathons and shorter distances, but now see running as a means of keeping fit and heathly, rather than as a means of competition. This will be the second time around the Great North Run course, and will be part of my preparation for the Amsterdam Marathon in October. My half marathon PB was set back in the 1980's at a fairly respectable 78 mins, but I'm hoping to be around the 100 mins (1 hr 40 min) mark for the GNR. Part of my role at the LSSA involves delivering educational material to runners, and helping to support the runners in the GNR is one of the highlights of the year.

John,
Hope the training is going well. I did the GNR last and I am also doing the Amsterdam marathon. It will be my 10th.
Cheers!
